AFS Volunteers Association is founded in 1999 by AFS returnees, families and others who shared the AFS mission. We welcome anyone in our work who adopt our mission, vision and core values, regardless of their participation in AFS Intercultural Programs.
OUR MISSION
We, the AFS Volunteers, create opportunities for intercultural interaction for a more just and peaceful world. We provide a roof to the ones who are committed to respecting differences and strengthening the will to live together, where they can work in solidarity.
Being part of the worldwide AFS family working in more than 90 countries to build bridges across different cultures, we:
– Constitute the volunteer base of AFS Intercultural Programs in Turkey, one of the world’s most prominent and oldest student exchange programs, and offer scholarships to support youngsters with disadvantaged backgrounds participate in them;
– Carry on youth exchanges, projects, and other activities with a scope on intercultural learning and active citizenship;
– Offer non-formal trainings to help people of all ages increase their global competences.
OUR VISION FOR 2020
Being the widespread, inclusive and leading NGO in Turkey in the field of intercultural interaction.
The outputs of the mission and vision workshops we held as volunteers in 2015 were to increase participation in our work and to make the association the widespread, the inclusive, the leading NGO in Turkey in the field of intercultural interaction. With the KArE Initiative established in line with this objective, we develop and carry on different projects beyond the AFS programs, and welcome everybody who is willing to work for peace.

All of our work is based on four core values.
Peace
We run in solidarity with the understanding of ‘peace in the world, in the community and within the organisation’.

We do not discriminate anyone in any of our work due to social, cultural and economical backgrounds or hierarchical positions.

We work with the understanding of ‘respect to all individuals’ regardless of race, gender, religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, age or other identities.
